Short Term Health Insurance Program & Coverages
Short Term medical insurance (aka temporary health insurance) is an option to provide coverage when you are between jobs or you are unable to afford ACA plans. In most cases, these plans do NOT cover pre-existing conditions. The time frame that companies will look back on these conditions is 1–5 years depending on your state of residence. This coverage is not “minimum essential coverage” as defined by the ACA and does not qualify for tax subsidies. The federal tax penalty for not having a plan that meets the ACA guidelines no longer applies as of January 31st, 2019. In most cases, these plans are very affordable and have nationwide networks. Short Term policies can be effective any time of the year and the coverage can last from 1 month up to 3 years.
